What You Should Know About Me:
The name’s Candace, with an A-C-E….Not an I-C-E …A-N-C-E …E-N-C-E, or any other way you can think to misspell it. I’m a student in Appalachian State’s off-campus program. I did the whole on-campus thing there, but it was way too cold for me. I will graduate in 2010 with a Bachelor’s in Elementary Education.
I work at the YMCA part-time watching children ages 6 weeks – 6 years old. When my school is not in session, I also substitute teach, mostly in elementary school, but I have been in every grade from Pre-K to 12th. During tax season, I also work as a receptionist at Jackson Hewitt Tax Service. I love all of my on most days, but they can be very stressful when school is going on.
What I Like:
There are so many things I like or enjoy doing. First and foremost, I love the time I am able to spend with my family.
On my mom’s side, I have a large extended family with 13 cousins and 3 second cousins, plus numerous significant others. Our monthly family get-togethers are usually filled with boisterous laughter.
I have the absolute best friends…
in the world. I haven’t been able to see some of them as often as I’d like due to our conflicting work and school schedules. When it is sweet summertime, we plan to have plenty of days to catch up.
My boyfriend of two years, Jason is also very important in my life. He makes each day we are together just a little bit brighter.
Two people who can make me smile even on the roughest days are Caleb,
four years o
ld and Ella, four weeks old. They are children of a family friend, but to me they seem like they are my own.
I love to travel!!! Any vacation for me is a GREAT vacation!! I enjoy visiting the NC and TN mountains in the fall to see the leaves changing. The snow in TN is also stunning in the winter. I love the snow, but only in moderation! Another reason Boone was not meant for me. The spring and summertime calls for trips to the beach. Unfortunately, with the beach you get sand, something I utterly despise.
My most preferred vacation would be anywhere that a Carnival Cruise Ship can take me. Nothing compares to a week of rest and relaxation with beautiful blue waters and a golden orange sunset to dream about at night.
What I Dislike:
Unfortunately, with every like there comes a dislike. At the top of my list is any creepy, crawly creature, especially SPIDERS. I’m afraid that if I try to kill one it’s going to jump on me and climb up my arm or leg. I’ve gone as far as sitting on the coffee table watching a spider’s movement, while waiting on someone else to get home to kill it. My family thinks I’m crazy.
I HATE getting up early in the mornings. I would feel better if I didn’t have to crawl out of bed until 8 or 9 each morning. This is something I’m going to have to get over since teaching will require me to be up early. Hopefully I can work close to home to get in as much rest as possible.
A fear of mine is getting run over by an 18-wheeler. Any time I have to pass one on the Highway, my heart starts racing and I get so nervous. I have had more than one try to push me out of my lane and that was way too close for comfort. I try to avoid them at all cost.
I love to have a clean house, but I absolutely despise housework. Maybe one day when I win the lottery, I can hire a maid to take care of that for me.
What I Look Like:
I believe that I am a little above average height for a woman at 5’ 7” tall. I have shoulder length, thick, straight hair. It is dark brown and glistens in the sun with reddish brown natural highlights.
My eyes are as bright as the sparkling blue waters of the Bahamas. I am often asked if I’m wearing contacts, to which I reply “Yes, but not colored contacts.” On most days, you will not catch me with any makeup on my face. I would rather catch a few more minutes of sleep, than waste my time on makeup. I save it for special occasions. I get the numerous freckled spots covering my cheeks from my dad. If given the choice I would much rather wear jeans and a T-shirt than dressy clothing. Although there are some occasions where I would rather jazz it up a little bit.
How I Act:
To people I have just met, or to those who don’t know me well, I appear to be on the shy and reserved side. I’m not the type to just walk up to someone and start a random conversation. However, once I am with my friends or family, my true self comes out and I could talk to them for hours on end. I tend to be a perfectionist; I like things to be done neatly and the right way, otherwise it irritates me. I consider myself relaxed. When everyone is stressing about assignments for school, I try to stay calm. I know that in the end it will all work out and everything will get done. I am also a caring person, and sometimes get in too deep by volunteering to help others out. I wouldn’t change helping make someone else’s life a little easier though.
