Look at the pictures.  With each picture ask the students what they think might be happening?

Part 1: pgs. 4-9

(p. 4) What was Toad doing? (making a list)

(p. 4) Why did he need to make a list?  (so he could remember everything he had to do that day)

(p. 8 ) Why do you think Toad put the list in his pocket?  (so he wouldn’t lose it)

What do you think Toad will do at Frog’s house?

Part 2: pgs. 10-13

(p. 12) What does Toad get to cross off his list?  (Take walk with Frog)

(p. 12) What happens after he crosses that out?  (The wind blows the list out of his hand.)

Have any of your predictions been right so far?

What do you believe is going to happen next?

Part 3: pgs. 14-15

(p. 14) What does Frog think they should do?  (run after the list and catch it)  Does he catch it?  (no)

(p. 14) Why doesn’t Toad run after the list?  (He hadn’t written that down on his list to do that day.)

(p. 15) What does “gasped” mean?  (talking while trying to catch his breath)  He’s been running I bet he’s tired.

Will Toad be able to do the rest of the things on his list?  Why or why not?  (Probably not, because he won’t be able to remember them.)

(p. 16) Why do Frog and Toad think it’s time to go to sleep?  (It starts to get dark.)

(p. 17) What happened when Toad heard “go to sleep”?  (He realized that was the last thing on his list.)
