Goldilocks and the Three Bears

Summary

This is a story about Goldilocks, who is very mischievous.  She disobeys her mother and takes a shortcut through the woods.  Goldilocks ends up at the house of the three bears.  The bears have gone out for a bike ride while their breakfast porridge cools down.  Goldilocks enters their house and proceeds to make a mess of the place.  She eats some porridge and spills some too.  She breaks a chair, and then ends up in Baby Bear’s bed asleep.  The bear’s come back home and scare Goldilocks away.

When the new neighbor said Goldilocks looked like a “sweet child”, why do you think the old neighbor said “That’s what you think?”  (Because she’s actually a bad child.  She gets into trouble a lot.)

Does anyone know what the word naughty means?  (Vocabulary word – behaving badly, being disobedient)  Do you see Goldilocks being naughty on this  page?  (She takes the shortcut through the woods even though her mom said not to.)

What does the word scalding mean?  (Vocab – very hot)  What did the scalding porridge do to the bears?  (Burnt their tongues)

What did Goldilocks do here that was very naughty?  (She went in the Bear’s house without permission.  She ate the porridge.)

Wow, Goldilocks sure did make a mess with that porridge.

Where do you think that brown fur came from?  (From the bears)

So what do you think Goldilocks is up to now?  (She’s trying out all of the bear’s chairs.)

How do you think the bears will feel about the broken chair?  (Mad, upset, sad)

Tuckered means tired.  So what does it mean by saying “Goldilocks was quite tuckered out?”  (Vocab word tuckered – tired) (She was tired.)  How could you figure out what tuckered means by just looking at the pictures?  (Goldilocks is yawning.)

Read page 18.  Then show the picture.  Whose bed do you think Goldilocks is in?  (Baby Bear)  What makes you think that?  (Drawings of his mom and dad on the wall.  Lots of toys)

How do you think the Bear’s are feeling after seeing the mess from the porridge and the broken chair?  (Curious as to what happened.  Angry. Confused. Shocked)

Page 24-26

Mama Bear and Papa Bear sure don’t look very happy.

What does Baby Bear discover?  (That there’s still someone in his bed.)  What do you think the bears are going to do to Goldilocks?  (Scare her away, eat her)

Show picture.  What do you think Goldilocks will do now?  (Get out of bed fast and run away)

How do you think Goldilocks felt when Papa Bear woke her up?  (Scared)  You were right Goldilocks took off and jumped out the window.  Do you think the bears will go after her?  Why or why not?
